Updated April 1st 2003

FUEL PRICES

The bad news first. As we have seen, the fuel prices are steadily rising. With Premium gas close to $1.00 a litre we have to raise our prices.

Effective April 1st there will be a $3.00 an hour increase for both dual and solo rates. Any prepaid flying, both flight training and prepaid block rentals, (paid for before April 1st.) will be honoured at the current rates.

Purchasing a 20 hour rental package saves you $11.00 an hour.

Coyote CF-XQW

After a complete rebuild XQW is back on line. The windshield, surface covering, brakes and a factory rebuilt Rotax 912 have been installed.

Searey CF-WTH

WTH is now in the shop for a complete refit and is expected to be back on line at the beginning of April. Included in the refit are the new deeper V hull and deck which has a recessed instrument panel to give taller pilots a little more leg room. Despite corrosion protection the landing gear and gear legs have deteriorated and are being replaced.

Vargas Island Fly Out

Weather and tides are a determining factor for this fly out. Landing on Vargas Island beach however is worth planning for and we hope to be able to do this before the end of April, but it might be on short notice so keep in touch if you are interested.

Passenger Carrying- The Latest From Transport Canada

Ottawa has released the revised implementation dates and knowledge requirements for the Pilot Permit Ultalight Aeroplane.

As you may be aware, based on recomendations from the ultralight ultralight aeroplane community, the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) will be amended in late 2003/early 2004 to include new pilot licensing regulations and standards for holders of the Pilot Permit Ultralight Aeroplane. The licensing structure will allow ultralight pilots to obtain the license qualification necessary to carry a passenger while completeing all of their training and testing at ultralight flight training schools, in ultralight aeroplanes with ultralight instructors and examiners, without having to obtain a Pilot Permit, Recreational or higher license. Candidadtes willhave to demonstrate their skill by way of a flight test, just as they do today as part of the Pilot Permit, Recreational or the Private Pilot Licensae. Like all ratings, the new passenger carrying rating will be optional. Ultralight pilots who have no wish to carry a passenger will continue as they do today, retaining their pilot permit restricted to "no passenger".

The Experience requirements for the passenger carrying rating are as follows:

>minimum of 25hours pilot flight training in an ultralight aeroplane under the direction and supervision of the holder of a flight instructor rating-ultralight aeroplane or a flight instructor rating-aeroplane.

>The flight training shall include a minimum of 2 hours cross-countyr flight time with a cross-country flight of two legs of a minimumof 30 minutes each, and

>5 hours of Solo flight time .

Trnasport Canada will be publishing a Flight Test Guide which will assist candidates with the procedures used, and the performance expected, on the flight test for the passenger carrying rating.

Here is hoping tha Ottawa is finally going to move ahead with the long awaited passenger carrying.

Airflow is happy to finally announce the launching of the Rans S12S Airaile C-GJIS

C-GJIS is registered as an amateur built with a special airworthiness certificate, which enables credit of all flight time towards other pilots licences.

Due to the delay in passenger carrying priviledges until early 2003, we are persuing the feasability of offering training and the flight test for the recreational permit on this aircraft.

The aircraft is powered with a 80hp Rotax 912

Gross weight of 1150lbs

Useful Load just over 500lbs

Hydraulic brakes, 3 position flaps and tricycle gear make it an excellent aircraft for short and rough field operations.

The wraparound window gives fantastic visibility on the ground and in the air.

MOTHER'S DAY PANCAKE BREAKFAST

An annual PUFA event, the Mother's Day pancake breakfast was held this year at Glen Valley airpark. Debbie Major, wife of a pilot Alan Major and mother of would be pilots, lines up for her helping of pancakes, eggs and sausage. Gord Denholm is the master of the pancake and Claude LeClair chef par excellance with the eggs and sausage.

We have to thank Gord, Claude, Glenn and Toby for organising the event. But I am not sure who we should thank for the glorious weather. The sun shone all day!!!!!
